The NBN™ and do I have to switch?

Welcome to the 21st century! With our ever-increasing connectivity, access to the internet has become a vital part of our lives. For work, education, recreation, and social interactions, being online is now an essential part of everyday life. What is the NBN™, and how does it work?

The nbn™, or National Broadband Network, is a new delivery method for the internet devised by the Australian Government that’s being rolled out nationwide. The old copper-wire technology that delivered the internet and telephone connections to homes is now outdated. The nbn™ will replace it using fibre-optic cabling, next-generation satellite, and fixed wireless. This new technology increases data transmission rates and provide a higher capacity broadband service.

Should I switch to the NBN™?

Once the nbn™ is connected to your area, you should switch over as soon as possible. The nbn™ is faster than most current ADSL services and uses newer, better technology than was initially in place. Think of it as an upgrade to your previous internet, because that’s precisely what it is.

What happens if I don’t switch to NBN™?

The nbn™ is replacing the existing lines, and services on the old network will be progressively shut off. When is the NBN™ cut off?

Once the nbn™ is installed in your area, you generally have around 18 months to move across to the nbn™ service, though this time frame can vary. You should make the switch as soon as you can. You don’t want to be left stranded in the 21st century without internet access. 

When is the NBN™ coming to my area?

The nbn™ is progressively rolling out across Australia, to find out if you already have connectivity in your area, contact FibreMax® today.  You will also receive the following information:

  • If nbn™ is available in your area, and if not when it will be;
  • The minimum and maximum bandwidth speed guaranteed for your area;
  • The service class and property type your address is certified for;
  • If you will incur any New Development costs when nbn™ is activated and the amount;
  • And, most importantly, what you will need to do to install the nbn™, and how long it will take.
